Issuance; conditions
Sec. 1. (a) This subsection expires June 30, 2010. The bureau
shall issue a learner's permit to an individual who meets the
following conditions:
(1) Is at least fifteen (15) years of age.
(2) If less than eighteen (18) years of age, is not ineligible under
IC 9-24-2-1.
(3) Is enrolled in an approved driver education course.
(b) This subsection applies beginning July 1, 2010, and expires
September 1, 2011. The bureau shall issue a learner's permit to an
individual who meets the following conditions:
(1) Is at least fifteen (15) years and one hundred eighty (180)
days of age.
(2) If less than eighteen (18) years of age, is not ineligible under
IC 9-24-2-1.
(3) Is enrolled in an approved driver education course.
(c) This subsection applies beginning September 1, 2011. The
bureau shall issue a learner's permit to an individual who meets the
following conditions:
(1) Is at least fifteen (15) years of age.
(2) If less than eighteen (18) years of age, is not ineligible under
IC 9-24-2-1.
(3) Is enrolled in an approved driver education course.

Validation
Sec. 2. The bureau shall validate a learner's permit issued under
section 1 of this chapter upon certification by the instructor of an
approved driver education course that the holder has satisfactorily
completed the course.

Issuance; age and examination requirements
Sec. 3. The bureau shall issue a validated learner's permit to an
individual who is at least sixteen (16) years of age upon passing the
required examination.

Operating privileges
Sec. 4. A learner's permit authorizes the permit holder to operate
a motor vehicle, except a motorcycle, upon a public highway under
the following conditions:

Operator's license examinations
Sec. 5. A holder of a learner's permit may take an examination for
an operator's license not later than the expiration date of the learner's
permit. Not more than three (3) examinations may be allowed any
holder during the period the learner's permit is issued. A holder who
does not pass the examination during the period for which the
learner's permit is issued must obtain a new learner's permit and is
not eligible to take the examination until two (2) months after the
issuance of the new permit.

Violations
Sec. 6. A person who violates this chapter commits a Class C
infraction.

Online driving guide; log to show evidence of completion of hours
of supervised practice driving
Sec. 7. The bureau shall publish an online driving guide that may
be used by the holder of a learner's permit and the parent of the
holder of a learner's permit, if applicable. The driving guide must
include a log that must be completed to show evidence of the
completion of the hours of supervised practice driving required under
IC 9-24-3-2.5(a)(1)(E) or IC 9-24-3-2.5(a)(2)(D).
