OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF FAMILY AND SOCIAL SERVICES

Notice of Changes to Postpartum Coverage

In accordance with public notice requirements established at 42 CFR 447.205, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning (OMPP) publishes this notice of proposed changes to extend coverage of postpartum care to eligible beneficiaries. The public notice period will run 02/16/2022 to 03/18/2022.

FSSA – OMPP proposes to modify the postpartum coverage service requirements allowing extended coverage for postpartum care. These changes include: expanding the eligibility group to pregnant women whose income level does not exceed two hundred eight percent (208%) of the federal poverty level for the same family size; removing Medicaid limitations for eligible pregnant women seeking medical assistance coverage for only pregnancy related services; and extending postpartum coverage for eligible women from sixty (60) days to twelve (12) months. These changes will be effective April 1, 2022.

OMPP is making these changes in order to comply with sections 9812 and 9822 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP), which gives states a new option to provide 12 months of extended postpartum coverage to pregnant individuals beginning April 1, 2022. This Medicaid State Plan Amendment (SPA) would provide Medicaid coverage for an eligible pregnant woman for the duration of the pregnancy and for the 12-month postpartum period that begins on the last day of the pregnancy (current law is 60 days postpartum coverage).
