TITLE 370 STATE EGG BOARD

Notice of Public Hearing
LSA Document #17-449

Notice of Public Hearing

Under IC 4-22-2-24, notice is hereby given that on July 18, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., at the Creighton Hall of Animal Science, Room 1042, 270 South Russell Street, West Lafayette, Indiana, the State Egg Board will hold a public hearing on a proposed rule to change the expiration date on Grade A eggs from 30 to 45 days and to add the requirement for the use of new consumer packaging for all eggs sold at retail.
The proposed rule to change the expiration date on Grade A eggs from 30 to 45 days will give retailers an additional 15 days to market Grade A eggs without a significant reduction in egg quality. The proposed rule will also require the use of new retail packaging. The reuse of packaging materials creates a potential food safety challenge. Previously used packaging material has the potential to contain pathogenic bacteria, which could result in a food borne illness. Additionally, the reuse of packaging materials/egg cartons can result in misinformation to public health officials relative to product traceability.
Should you wish to comment on the proposed rule but are unable to attend the public hearing, written comments will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on July 20, 2018.
Copies of this proposed rule and any data, studies, or analyses referenced in a justification of requirements or costs on regulated entities are available to be inspected and copied at the offices of the Indiana State Egg Board, Purdue University, Creighton Hall of Animal Sciences, 270 South Russell Street, West Lafayette, Indiana or at:
