OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF FAMILY AND SOCIAL SERVICES

Notice of Changes in Methods and Standards for Medicaid Payments for
Community Health Worker Services

In accordance with public notice requirements of 42 CFR 447.205, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning (OMPP) publishes this notice of proposed changes to methods and standards governing reimbursement policy for Medicaid services provided by community health workers. This public comment period will run from May 16, 2018, to June 18, 2018.

OMPP proposes to modify the reimbursement methodology for non-physician practitioner services to add reimbursement for the services of community health workers. This change shall be effective July 1, 2018.

The change in reimbursement is necessary in order to include this practitioner in the state plan as the community health worker provides necessary services to Medicaid beneficiaries. It is estimated that the fiscal impact of these changes will be an increase in state and federal expenditures of approximately $7,240 for FFY 2018 (federal share of $4,749 and state share of $2,491) and $30,769 for FFY 2019 (federal share of $20,295 and state share of $10,474).

A copy of this notice is now on file at the Indiana Government Center South, 402 West Washington Street, Room W451, Indianapolis, Indiana and is open for public inspection. Also, a copy of this notice is now available and may be inspected by contacting the local county office of the Division of Family Resources, except in Marion County, where public inspection may be made at the Indiana Government Center South, 402 West Washington Street, Room W374, Indianapolis, Indiana.
