TITLE 312 NATURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION

Emergency Rule

DIGEST

Temporarily sets forth the specifications for the use of rifles for deer hunting. Effective November 3, 2017.


SECTION 1. (a) This SECTION supersedes 312 IAC 9-3-3(c)(6).

(b) A rifle, with the use of cartridges described in SECTION 2(b) of this document, on publicly owned land.

(c) A rifle, with the use of the cartridges that meet the specifications described in SECTION 2(c) of this document, on privately owned land, as permitted by and consistent with IC 14-22-2-8(b)(1) and IC 14-22-10-1, both of which, together, address the same requirement, that permit the use of a rifle only on privately owned land when the hunter has obtained the consent of the owner or tenant of the land.

SECTION 2. (a) This SECTION supersedes 312 IAC 9-3-3(d)(4).

(b) A rifle used on publicly owned land must fire a cartridge that meets the following specifications:
(1) Fire a bullet of three hundred fifty-seven thousandths (.357) of an inch diameter or larger.
(2) Have a minimum case length of one and sixteen-hundredths (1.16) inches.
(3) Have a maximum case length of one and eight-tenths (1.8) inches.

(c) A rifle used on privately owned land must fire a cartridge that meets the following specifications:
(1) Fire a bullet that is two hundred forty-three thousandths (.243) of an inch diameter or larger.
(2) Have a minimum case length of one and sixteen-hundredths (1.16) inches.
(3) Have a maximum case length of three (3) inches.

(d) Full metal jacketed bullets are unlawful.

SECTION 3. This document expires on February 1, 2018.
