FOR: THE NAMING OF INTERSTATE 865 AFTER FRED M. FEHSENFELD, SR.
TO ALL WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME, GREETINGS.
WHEREAS, this Order honors the remarkable leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, and service of Fred M. Fehsenfeld, Sr., a decorated Hoosier war veteran, visionary businessman and community leader, by naming Interstate 865 after him;
WHEREAS, Fred M. Fehsenfeld, Sr., a lifelong resident of the State of Indiana, is a Hoosier war veteran who, at age 18, enlisted in the Army Air Corps, served in World War II, received the Air Medal, three Silver Clusters and Silver Stars, and thereafter served in the Indiana Air National Guard;
WHEREAS, Fred M. Fehsenfeld, Sr., an esteemed businessman and a visionary in the energy field, established The Heritage Group and other businesses involved in many areas, including energy sales, marketing, environmental services, environmentally sustainable construction, chemical refining, engineering services, logistics, transportation, and scientific research, that operate not only in the State of Indiana but also across our country and worldwide;
WHEREAS, Fred M. Fehsenfeld, Sr., continues to support innovations and breakthroughs in the energy field, having established, at his alma mater Purdue University, the Fehsenfeld Family Head of Environmental and Ecological Engineering and the Purdue Energy Fund;
WHEREAS, Fred M. Fehsenfeld, Sr., is a community leader and philanthropist, having provided countless benefactions and generously sharing his time, energy and leadership with organizations, activities and causes too many to name;
WHEREAS, in recognition of his remarkable contributions, and lifetime of service and dedication, not only to the State of Indiana but also to our country, it is appropriate to honor and recognize Fred M. Fehsenfeld, Sr., by naming Interstate 865 after him;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Eric J. Holcomb, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Indiana, do hereby order that:
The Indiana Department of Transportation name Interstate 865 (which is the east-west connector between Interstates 65 and 465) after Fred M. Fehsenfeld, Sr., and promptly prepare and execute any and all documents and signage necessary to effectuate the same.
