In accordance with public notice requirements of 42 CFR 447.205 of the Social Security Act, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning (OMPP) publishes this notice of proposed changes to methods and standards governing reimbursement policy for Medicaid services provided by a genetic counselor.

The OMPP proposes to modify the reimbursement methodology for non-physician practitioner services to add reimbursement for the services of genetic counselors. This change shall be effective October 1, 2017.

The change in reimbursement is necessary in order to include this practitioner in the state plan as the genetic counselor provides necessary services to Medicaid beneficiaries. It is estimated that the fiscal impact of these changes will be an increase in state and federal expenditures of approximately $2,800 for FFY 2017 (federal share of $1,900 and state share of $900) and $17,000 for FFY 2018 (federal share of $11,000 and state share of $6,000).
