Under IC 4-22-2-24, notice is hereby given that on February 23, 2017, at 8:30 a.m., local time, at the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, Indiana Government Center South, 402 West Washington Street, Room W064, Indianapolis, Indiana, the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana will hold a public hearing to add 844 IAC 17 to establish requirements for certification, certification fees, continuing education requirements, peer review procedures, collaboration requirements, standards of competent practice, and emergency plans for certified direct entry midwives.

This rule does impose costs or requirements. Specifically, this rule imposes: application requirements to ensure that only qualified and trained individuals are licensed as direct entry midwives; fees necessary to carry out the Board's functions related to the licensure of direct entry midwives; continuing education requirements to ensure midwives keep abreast of current theory and practice; peer review requirements to ensure midwives evaluate their own cases and improve their skills through collaboration with other midwives; and physician collaboration, emergency care plans, and referral requirements to ensure the overall safe delivery of midwifery services.
