Title: Interpretation of Section 1103.2.1 and Section N1106 (Indiana Residential Code, 2005 edition)


Date: January 28, 2014

Purpose: To clarify that a builder may use Section N1106, performance based compliance in chapter 4 of the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). In lieu of Section 1103.2.1 the prescriptive method for duct insulation in the attic of a home.

Interpretation: The Building Law Compliance Officer interprets the following sections as establishing alternatives for the required duct insulation in a Class 2 Structure. The performance based method in Section 1106 may be used in lieu of the prescriptive method contained Section 1103.2.1 if a certified Residential Energy Specialist uses a nationally recognized modeling software to model the energy rating of the home.
