EXECUTIVE ORDER: 13-23

FOR: THE RENAMING OF THE BRIDGE OVER THE NORTH FORK OF SALT CREEK ON STATE ROAD 46 AFTER U.S. MARINE COPRS [sic] SERGEANT JEREMY R. MCQUEARY


TO ALL WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME, GREETINGS.

WHEREAS, the intent of this Order is to honor the service of Sergeant Jeremy R. McQueary, United States Marine Crops [sic], by naming the bridge over the North Fork of Salt Creek on State Road 46 in Brown County after him;

WHEREAS, Sergeant McQueary, a native of Columbus, Indiana, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 2002 after graduating from Columbus East High School;

WHEREAS, Sergeant McQueary served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned several awards and decorations, including the Combat Action Ribbon and a Purple Heart, for his bravery and dedication;

WHEREAS, Sergeant McQueary gave his life in service to a grateful nation on February 18, 2010, when he was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) while serving with the Second Combat Engineer Battalion, Second Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force in Helmand Province, Afghanistan;

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to honor Sergeant McQueary in his hometown for his service and sacrifice for our country.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Michael R. Pence, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Indiana, do hereby order that:

The Indiana Department of Transportation name the bridge over the North Fork of Salt Creek on SR 46 East at Mile Marker 74.04 after Sergeant Jeremy R. McQueary, United States Marine Corps. The National Bridge Inventory number for the bridges [sic] is 17270, and the INDOT structure number is 046-07-04171 A.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I, Michael R. Pence, have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Indiana on this 6th day of November 2013.
