Title: Interpretation of
675 IAC 13-2.5, Section 3004 of the 2008 Indiana Building Code
Date: Effective October 1, 2013
Purpose: To clarify when elevator hoistway vents are required and when they are permitted.
Interpretation: The State Fire Marshal and the Building Law Compliance Officer interpret Section 3004.1 as follows:
Hoistway vents that comply with Section 3004 are required as prescribed in Section 3004.1. Hoistway vents that are not required under Section 3004.1 may be installed in any such hoistway, so long as the installation complies with Section 3004.2 and Section 3004.3.
