FOR: DECLARING A DISASTER EMERGENCY IN GIBSON COUNTY AND OAKLAND CITY DUE TO SEVERE STORMS WITH DAMAGING WINDS AND A TORNADO
TO ALL WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME, GREETINGS.
WHEREAS, IC 10-14-3-12 provides that the governor shall declare a disaster emergency by executive order if he determines that a disaster involving widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property has occurred or that the occurrence or threat of a disaster is imminent; and
WHEREAS, on July 31, 2012, a severe storm with damaging winds and a tornado caused widespread damage to homes, businesses and public property in Gibson County and Oakland City; and
WHEREAS, both Gibson County and Oakland City declared a local disaster emergency pursuant to
IC 10-14-3-29 on July 31, 2012, and transmitted a copy of the declaration to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security within seventy-two hours after the local disaster emergency was declared.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., by virtue of the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Indiana, do hereby:
DECLARE that a state of disaster emergency exists in Gibson County. This declaration of disaster emergency shall be effective immediately and shall continue for thirty (30) days pursuant to
IC 10-14-3-12; and
ORDER that this Executive Order declaring the existence of a state of disaster emergency is issued to enable the State to provide financial assistance from the State Disaster Relief Fund to eligible local units of government which have suffered damage to the entity's public facilities because of this disaster.
