Title: Interpretation of 675 IAC 12-4-12(b)

Purpose: The purpose of this nonrule policy document is to clarify the effect of the addition of one or more balconies to an R-2 structure with regard to sprinkler system requirements.

Interpretation: The addition of only one or more balconies, each of which does not exceed 100 square feet in total area, to an existing, nonsprinklered, R-2 occupancy is permitted without either the balconies or the existing building being protected by a sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903 of the 2008 Indiana Building Code.
