EXECUTIVE ORDER: 11-15

FOR: PARDON FOR DONALD BERG


TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME, GREETINGS;

WHEREAS, DONALD BERG, who petitioned for a pardon, was convicted in Lake County of Burglary, Class C Felony in 1980, for which he served his sentence without incident or violation of parole; and

WHEREAS, the petitioner, is now a 49 year-old man who has been a productive member of society, earning both a Bachelor's of Science and a Master's in Theology and has, since these instant offenses, lived a law-abiding life; and

WHEREAS, the petitioner acts as a full-time missionary in the Country of Australia, a prison chaplain, religious education teacher and his interest in pursuing a Chaplin [sic] career in the military; and

WHEREAS, the petitioner admits his immaturity and poor decision-making when he was 18 and committed the crime; and

WHEREAS, letters have been received urging the Governor grant this petition, including one from the then-arresting officer in northern Indiana; and

WHEREAS, the Parole Board, after careful investigation and examination of all the facts in this case, has unanimously recommended to the Governor that this pardon be granted.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., Governor of the State of Indiana, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of said State do hereby issue a Pardon to DONALD BERG.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Indiana on this 23rd day of November, 2011.
