Under IC 4-22-2-24, notice is hereby given that on May 26, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, Indiana Government Center South, 402 West Washington Street, Room W064, Indianapolis, Indiana, the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana will hold a public hearing to add 844 IAC 5-4-2 to allow physicians to practice expedited partner therapy (EPT), the practice of treating the sex partner or partners of persons with sexually transmitted diseases without an intervening medical evaluation by a physician.

The proposed rule is needed to prevent infection in the community and to reduce reinfection rates in treated patients as sex partners of infected patients must be provided timely and appropriate antibiotic treatment. This rule will have no fiscal impact on small businesses or impose any cost to the public or state or local government.
