TITLE 345 INDIANA STATE BOARD OF ANIMAL HEALTH

Notice of Public Hearing
LSA Document #10-333

Notice of Public Hearing

Under IC 4-22-2-24, notice is hereby given that on January 13, 2011, at 9:40 a.m., at the Indiana State Board of Animal Health, 4154 North Keystone Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana, the Indiana State Board of Animal Health will hold a public hearing on a proposed rule that will amend 345 IAC 1-5-1 and add 345 IAC 1-5-1.5 to clarify that the requirement to vaccinate dogs, cats, and ferrets for rabies is met when a vaccination is administered by a registered veterinary technician or veterinary assistant working under the direct supervision of a veterinarian and amend 345 IAC 1-5-3 to update the Compendium on Animal Rabies Control incorporated by reference.
The Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) is considering these changes to clarify required procedures for rabies vaccinations and to permit additional flexibility in how animals are vaccinated for rabies while maintaining veterinary responsibility for the procedure. The proposed rule allows a procedure that is more flexible for veterinarians because the current rule is becoming increasingly at odds with the common and usual practice for administering vaccinations in the veterinary profession. The BOAH does not anticipate increased costs to businesses as a result of adopting the rule.
Copies of these rules are now on file at the Indiana State Board of Animal Health, 4154 North Keystone Avenue and Legislative Services Agency, Indiana Government Center North, 100 North Senate Avenue, Room N201, Indianapolis, Indiana and are open for public inspection.
