EXECUTIVE ORDER: 09-06

FOR: DECLARING A DISASTER EMERGENCY IN BROWN, CLARK, FLOYD, FRANKLIN, JACKSON, JENNINGS, MARION, RIPLEY AND RUSH COUNTIES, INDIANA, DUE TO A TORNADO, HIGH WINDS, TORRENTIAL RAINFALL AND SIGNIFICANT FLOODING


TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME, GREETINGS:

WHEREAS, a tornado, severe straight line winds, torrential rains and flooding swept through Brown, Clark, Floyd, Franklin, Jackson, Jennings, Marion, Ripley and Rush counties on August 4, 2009; and

WHEREAS, up to ten inches of rain fell over a 23 hour period in some locations, quickly leading to severe flooding; and

WHEREAS, high winds, torrential rainfall and severe flooding resulted in many damaged homes and personal property; and

WHEREAS, repeated disasters over the past year have caused previous hardships to these citizens in addition to this disaster event.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., by virtue of the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Indiana, do hereby:

DECLARE that a state of disaster emergency exists in Brown, Clark, Floyd, Franklin, Jackson, Jennings, Marion, Ripley and Rush counties; and

ORDER the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, having already begun implementation of the State Emergency Plan, to provide needed emergency services, to the damaged areas of Brown, Clark, Floyd, Franklin, Jackson, Jennings, Marion, Ripley and Rush counties impacted by the tornado, high winds, torrential rains and subsequent flooding and to coordinate assistance with appropriate federal, state and local agencies. Such assistance may include financial assistance from the State Disaster Relief Fund.

ORDER any assistance from the State Disaster Relief Fund is to be limited exclusively to appropriate individual assistance grants to persons in the damaged areas of the aforementioned counties impacted by the tornado, high winds, heavy rains and subsequent flooding.

This declaration of disaster emergency was in effect beginning August 4, 2009, and continues.
