Amends 675 IAC 14-4.3-78.5, 675 IAC 14-4.3-119, and 675 IAC 14-4.3-120 concerning the 2005 Indiana Residential Code to clarify code sections R408.1, R703.7.4.2, and R703.7.4.3. Effective 30 days after filing with the Publisher.

SECTION 1. 675 IAC 14-4.3-78.5 IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS:

Sec. 78.5. (a) Add a sentence to Section R408.1, after the first sentence, to read as follows: The ventilation openings may be located in the rim joist of the exterior wall.

(b) Change the last sentence of Section R408.1 to read as follows: One such ventilation opening shall be within 4 feet (1,219 mm) of each corner of said building.

SECTION 2. 675 IAC 14-4.3-119 IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS:

Sec. 119. Delete the text of Section R703.7.4.2 and substitute to read as follows: The masonry veneer shall be separated from the sheathing by an air space of not less than 3/4 inch (19 mm) but not more than 4 1/2 inches (114 mm). The weather-resistant sheathing paper as required by Section R703.2 is not required over water-repellent sheathing materials installed according to manufacturer's instructions. Mortar is permitted to encroach into the air space or make incidental contact with the sheathing or the sheathing paper or equivalent.

SECTION 3. 675 IAC 14-4.3-120 IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS:

Sec. 120. (a) Amend Section R703.7.4.3 by deleting "1 inch (25.4 mm)" and inserting "3/4 inch (19mm)."

(b) Change the first sentence of Section R703.7.4.3 to read as follows: As an alternate method to apply stone and masonry veneer, mortar or grout shall be permitted to fill the air space when the following requirements are met.
