EXECUTIVE ORDER: 07-04

FOR: DECLARING A DISASTER EMERGENCY FOR SEVERE WINTER WEATHER.


TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME, GREETINGS:

WHEREAS, a severe winter storm swept through Indiana from February 12 through February 14, 2007;

WHEREAS, northern Indiana was inundated by heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions;

WHEREAS, many state, federal and local roads throughout Indiana became impassable due to falling and drifting snow and white-out conditions;

WHEREAS, hundreds of families in southern Indiana were without power when temperatures plummeted to below zero and ice coated and destroyed power lines;

WHEREAS, shelters were opened throughout the state to protect storm victims;

WHEREAS, large numbers of motorists were stranded along Indiana highways and required rescue and protective shelter; and

WHEREAS, all available state resources have been directed to assist victims of this storm.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., by virtue of the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Indiana, do hereby

DECLARE that a state of disaster emergency exists in numerous Indiana counties; and

ORDER the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, having already implemented the State Emergency Plan, to provide needed emergency services to the damaged areas of Indiana impacted by the storm and to coordinate assistance with appropriate federal and state agencies.

This declaration of disaster emergency was in effect beginning February 12, 2007 and continues.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Indiana on this 26th day of February, 2007.
