EXECUTIVE ORDER: 06-11

FOR: PARDON


TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME, GREETINGS;

WHEREAS, SURESH C. MANGAL, who has petitioned for a pardon, was convicted in 1997 in Marion County of Attempted Arson, for which he received a suspended sentence of ten (10) years and two (2) years of probation;

WHEREAS, the petitioner, who successfully completed his probation in 2000, is a 53-year-old Indian-born legal permanent resident who immigrated to the United States in 1989 with his wife and two children to pursue better opportunities to work and raise his growing family;

WHEREAS, the petitioner's family are all well educated and productive members of society working in the medical, accounting, and engineering fields, and his wife and two sons have also become U.S. citizens;

WHEREAS, the petitioner has over forty (40) letters of support from family, friends, co-workers, past and present employees, and community leaders, all of whom recommend that his petition for pardon be granted;

WHEREAS, the petitioner has been a resident, homeowner, and local businessman in Indianapolis, IN, and has maintained (and provided) steady employment and lived a vibrant life with an eye toward always giving back to the community;

WHEREAS, the petitioner has high hopes of being able to continue to live in America with his family, continuing to grow the small business he has started here in Indiana, with the hope of being able to continue to give back all the good fortune he has received; and

WHEREAS, the Parole Board, after careful investigation and examination of all the facts in this case, has unanimously recommended that this pardon be granted.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., Governor of the State of Indiana, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of said State, do hereby issue a pardon to SURESH C. MANGAL.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Indiana on this 10th day of July, 2006.
