Representative Phyllis Pond has spent the past 30 years working hard to improve the quality of education and services provided to the residents of Allen and DeKalb Counties.
First elected into office in 1978, Representative Pond has had the privilege of serving on several key committees in the House of Representatives such as the Ways and Means and the Committee on the Judiciary Committee.
Representative Pond has worked on many key pieces of legislation to improve Hoosiers livelihood and education. She was the original author of the Primetime educational bill to lower class sizes to 18 in kindergarten through third grade. If the class size is larger than 18 then the class is to be provided with a part or full time teacher's aide. She has also authored the CLEO law which developed a plan to assist minority students to attend law school and become lawyers.
As a retired teacher in the East Allen Community School Corporation she understands the obstacles teachers face daily in the classroom and works to combat those through legislative initiatives.
Representative Pond works to remain connected to her community through community activities such as: The New Haven Women's Club; National Order of Women Legislators; Biomedical Services of the American Red Cross; and as a Precinct Committeeman. She has served as a 4-H leader, Cub Scout den mother, and Girl Scout leader.
Representative Pond and her husband George live in New Haven where they attend the Lutheran Church. They have three grown children.
