State Representative Michael Ripley was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1996 to represent the people of Adams, Allen, and Wells Counties. While in the legislature, he has focused his efforts on balancing the needs of his constituents with the positive direction of the state.
While serving on the House Insurance Committee, Representative Ripley has been instrumental in passing legislation for consumer protection relative to credit scoring and insurance rates.
During the 2006 legislative session, Representative Ripley worked to have many of his insurance-related bills signed into law. He authored House Enrolled Act 1239, designed to create a more competitive individual health insurance market in Indiana. He also authored House Enrolled Act 1392, which consolidates the guaranty fund from a multi-state level to a one-state level, creating greater consumer protection. In addition, Representative Ripley authored a House Resolution in the 2006 session honoring the Monroeville Community Park Board for receiving the third annual June Curry Trail Angel award from the Adventure Cycling Association, one of the nation’s largest cycling organizations with over 42,000 members nationwide, for hosting trail riders since 1976.
Representative Ripley is a former Adams County Commissioner and was formerly the Executive Director of the Economic Development Committee of the Berne Chamber of Commerce.
He is a graduate of Ball State University. He and his wife Diane reside in Adams County with their seven children—Elliott, Melinda, Michelle, Jessica, Eric, Jared, and Hannah. They are actively involved in their community and are members of the Monroe United Brethren Church.
Representative Ripley brings family values to the Statehouse while serving the constituents of District 79 to the best of his ability.
