Representative Jud McMillin grew up in Brookville and attended Franklin County High School, graduating in 95. Excelling both in athletics and scholastics, he pursued higher education by attending the University of Cincinnati, obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Economics in 99. Continuing in academia, McMillin received his Law Degree from the University of Mississippi in 2002 and shortly after, became a deputy prosecutor in Dayton, OH.

With a background in law and driven by helping people, McMillin participated in several economic development initiatives in Southeast Indiana. Soon thereafter, McMillin discovered that one of the best ways he could promote economic development was through state government which inspired him to run for the Indiana House of Representatives in House District 68.

Victorious in 2010, and as a freshman lawmaker, McMillin represented portions of Southeast Indiana, including his hometown of Brookville. In the next two years, he was assigned to the Courts and Criminal Code, Judiciary and Roads and Transportation standing committees and was responsible for working on bills that protect Hoosier children as well as the Castle Doctrine.

As a sophomore legislator, McMillin was appointed to serve in three leadership capacities as Assistant Majority Floor Leader, Chairman for the Courts and Criminal Code Committee and Vice Chairman of the Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee; all while serving on the Judiciary and Roads and Transportation committees. Rep. McMillin championed several major initiatives such as; reforming and updating Indiana’s criminal code and reducing the size and scope of government.

This year, McMillin was elected by the Indiana House of Representatives Majority Caucus to the leadership role of Floor Leader. In that role, he will assist leadership in carrying out decisions and steering floor action to accomplish the House Republican 2015 Legislative Agenda.

Despite the many hours required to serve as a state representative, McMillin continues to practice law, promote economic development initiatives and maintains an active role in his district by meeting with constituents, business owners and hosting town halls regularly in addition to participating in many of the events Southeast Indiana has to offer.
