Meet Tim Harris

Representative Tim Harris was first elected in 2004 to serve House District 31, which covers most of Blackford and Grant Counties in central Indiana. As a small business owner and local leader, Rep. Harris’ experience has helped assist in a number of job creation projects that have directly impacted the community.

As a job creation leader, Rep. Harris serves as the Ranking Minority Member of the Small Business and Economic Development Committee and is a member of the Committees on Education and Family, Children and Human Affairs. He continues to meet regularly with local and state officials on job creation initiatives and joined local mayors on an economic development trip to Japan in 2006.

Rep. Harris has worked to move Indiana to a ‘single sales factor’ arrangement for figuring business taxes. While this legislation will have little effect on personal taxes, the new system updates Indiana’s dilapidated tax structure and has received praise from the national business community.

For creative and low-cost solutions for business development, such as the creation of the Hoosier Headquarters Relocation Tax Credit – a measure to assist businesses in moving to Indiana, Rep. Harris was honored as a “Small Business Champion” by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.

A graduate of Marion High School, Rep. Tim Harris earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Music Performance at Indiana Wesleyan University. He has been actively involved in the community, participating in the Marion-Grant County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Programs, as chairman of a number of different nonprofit entities, and as a member of many other local groups in Hartford City, Gas City, Montpelier, and Marion. Rep. Harris and Dianne, his wife of 16 years, attend College Wesleyan Church in Marion.
