State Representative Tom Dermody and his wife Jackie live in LaPorte with their two children, Katie and Ben. Elected to the state legislature in 2006 to represent the citizens of House District 20, Rep. Dermody owns and manages a small business.

Tom currently sits on the House Ways and Means committee, and is the Chairman of the Higher Education Subcommittee. He is also a member of the Courts and Criminal Code committee where he has worked to provide a safer environment for Hoosier families.

Locally, Tom serves as a board member for the LaPorte YMCA and the Salvation Army. In addition, he was the Past President and Vice President and former member of the LaPorte Community School Corporation. Tom has volunteered as a youth athletics coach for several years in LaPorte, and has also spent time mentoring at a local elementary school.
