Constitutional Property Tax Caps Pass Senate,
Decision Now Heads to Hoosier Voters

STATEHOUSE-- State Representative Don Lehe (R-Brookston) released the following statement today in response to the passage of HJR1, the constitutional amendment to permanently cap property taxes in Indiana. The measure passed the House by a vote of 75 to 23.

"Lawmakers have done the best thing for the citizens in Indiana by allowing them to make the final decision on whether or not to put property tax caps in the constitution. Hoosiers have made it very clear they want this opportunity. I'm hoping the Senate can take a look at this issue quickly and get this important matter on the ballot in November. It's the number one thing we can do for taxpayers in this state. I will continue to work to provide even more taxpayer protection by addressing how to control and improve the assessment procedure."
