2009 POWER Scholarship Program

The deadline for applications was Nov. 15, 2009

POWER stands for "Political Organization for Women’s Education and Representation." This group of female legislators in the Indiana Senate and the Indiana House of Representatives was formed to highlight issues of concern to citizens across the state.

One of the group's primary goals is to make a positive impact on the lives of Indiana women as they strive to make a better future for themselves: that's where the POWER Scholarships come into the picture.

Statehouse DomePOWER Scholarships will be provided to 18 nontraditional female students who are looking to begin or resume their education.

These scholarships are not intended for the young woman who has just graduated from high school, but rather are intended for women who are beginning or currently enrolled with a college or university and who are age 25 or older.

The women who serve in the Indiana House of Representatives and the Indiana Senate have pooled their resources and efforts to help nontraditional female students who are interested in pursuing the additional training and skills needed to help them earn a degree or advance their careers: this is the goal of the POWER Scholarships.Indiana Statehouse

One $1,000 POWER Scholarship and one $750 POWER Scholarship will be awarded in each of Indiana's congressional districts. Awards will be sent directly to the recipient's school.
