Lake County legislators appointed to interim study committees
INDIANAPOLIS —— Indiana House Speaker B. Patrick Bauer (D-South Bend) appointed Lake County state representatives to a variety of influential study committees that will meet during the summer and fall.
"The Lake County delegation will help shape several important legislative initiatives through the study committees," said Bauer. "The legislators' input will shed light on important issues that will be considered during the 2009 Indiana General Assembly."
STATE REP. CHARLIE BROWN (D-Gary), Indiana House District 3, will chair both the Commission on Mental Health and the Health Finance Commission. In addition, he will serve on the Interagency State Council on Black & Minority Health and the Select Joint Committee on Medicaid Oversight.
STATE REP. MARA CANDELARIA REARDON (D-Munster), Indiana House District 12, was appointed to the Interim Study Committee on Immigration, the Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs, Commission on Minority & Women's Business Enterprises, the Environmental Adjudication Director Selection Panel, the Indiana Commission for Women, and the Indiana Recycling Market Development Board.
STATE REP. CHET DOBIS (D-Merrillville), Indiana House District 13, will be a member of the Regulatory Flexibility Committee.
STATE REP. EARL HARRIS (D-East Chicago), Indiana House District 2, has been named to the County Redistricting Commission, the Northwest Indiana Transportation Study Commission, and the Shoreline Development Commission.
STATE REP. LINDA LAWSON (D-Hammond), Indiana House District 1, will chair the Sentencing Policy Study Committee and be the vice chair of the Commission on Courts. Additionally, she will serve on the Board of Trustees of the Criminal Justice Institute, the Criminal Law Study Commission, and the Northwest Indiana Advisory Board.
STATE REP. VERNON G. SMITH (D-Gary), Indiana House District 14, was reappointed to the Commission on the Social Status of Black Males and the Commission for a Drug Free Indiana. In addition, he will be a member of the Indiana Public Defender Commission and the Sentencing Policy Study Committee.
STATE REP. DAN STEVENSON (D-Hammond), Indiana House District 11, was named to the Rail Corridor Safety Committee and the Regulatory Flexibility Committee.
STATE REP. SHELLI VANDENBURGH (D-Crown Point), Indiana House District 19, will serve on the Code Revision Commission and the Interim Study Committee on Adult Education.
