A message from Committee Chairman Trent Van Haaften

Rep. Trent Van Haaften“When I served as Posey County Prosecuting Attorney, I always sought to be fair to those who encountered the crimnal justice system. By listening to both sides of a case, my community was protected and justice was served.

“This willingness to listen to both sides of an issue plays a key role in the success of the Indiana House Public Policy Committee. Many of the issues that come before the members of this committee are either emotionally charged or carry the potential to become emotionally charged in short order. Once again, by listening to both sides of any issue, the well being of our state is best served.

“I am humbled by Speaker Bauer's faith in my abilities to give everyone a fair opportunity to be heard. This sense of fairness plays a key role in developing legislation that can impact Hoosiers in very personal ways.

“As the members of this committee continue their deliberations on behalf of the people of Indiana, rest assured the chairman of this panel is determined to hear both sides of any controversial topic that comes before us. The citizens of Indiana deserve and demand no less than this.”
