A message from Committee Chairman Vernon G. Smith
“Indiana's local units of government bear great responsibilities for public safety, education and economic development.
“The vital work of the Indiana House Local Government Committee is aimed primarily at helping these local units of government make the best possible use of their limited fiscal resources. As a longtime member of the Gary City Council, I have struggled with the tough decisions that must be made at the local level.
“Through the legislation that is crafted and endorsed by the members of this committee, I hope the General Assembly can provide to local units of government the tools they will need to meet the tremendous challenges facing Indiana.”
