State Representative Sandra "Sandy" Blanton (D–Orleans) was sworn in as the state representative from Indiana House District 62 on Nov. 20, 2007.State Rep. Blanton is an accountant for Southern Indiana Community Health Care.
Sandra earned a bachelor's degree in business from Campbellsville University, a master's degree in business administration from Bellarmine University, and a master's degree in public health administration from Western Kentucky University. She is a retired accountant.
In addition to her legislative responsibilities, Rep. Blanton is a volunteer for SOAR, an organization that advocates and promotes adult literacy. Sandra is also a member of Phi Beta Psi, the Democrat Women's Club and regularly attends Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
State Rep. Blanton says her primary policy interests are education reform, public health care and economic development. More specifically, she hopes to join other lawmakers in developing a plan for permanent property tax relief and to find a way to provide free textbooks for Indiana's schoolchildren.
State Rep. Blanton's husband, Larry, is the circuit court judge for Orange County.
