Sen. Travis Holdman remarks after swearing-in ceremony Friday, April 11, 2008.
Chief Justice Shepard, Lt. Gov. Skillman, President Long, Pastor Tom, family and friends.
I would like to thank the many family, friends, my new Statehouse colleagues, staff and State GOP staff here today, and of course to the precinct committeemen of District 19.
Many of the people here today are responsible for me being here. Just the other evening, Becky and I were talking and she said “Isn’t God’s timing remarkable?” Yes it is. I am reminded of Scripture that says “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
This looks like “Travis Holdman Day” at the Statehouse. But it really is as much “Becky Holdman Day.” Maybe it’s about Tom Watt, Carolyn Martin, Bonnie Bradley, Erma Holdman (a Georgian Democrat) or Dorothy Stinson, Mike Murrell, Jeff or Jill Shelton. Maybe Queen Glenda, Tim Abbett, Kathy Murrell or Mark Misch. It really is about all of you.
This room, this day, this momentous occasion is filled with some of the finest servant leaders and dear friends any blessed man could ask for. You are responsible for me being here today.
Today, I give you all the license to rein me in and remind me should I appear to have forgotten: “God put Travis Holdman here to serve, not to be served.”
I covet your prayers to serve with humility, integrity, honesty and a fair measure of what I call Hoosier Common Sense to “quit the wrong stuff, stick with the right stuff and have the guts to do one or the other.”
Sen. Long, thank you for your kindness already extended to Becky and I, our family and friends and thank you for your gracious hospitality today. |
