HOLDMAN IS NEWEST MEMBER OF INDIANA SENATE
(STATEHOUSE) – Senator-elect Travis Holdman (R-Markle) became the newest member of the Indiana Senate today after a swearing-in ceremony conducted by Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepard at the Statehouse.
“I am looking forward to serving Senate District 19 and I want my constituents to hold me accountable and I want to serve with integrity and honesty,” Holdman said.
Holdman was selected by precinct committee members of Senate District 19 on March 29 to complete the four-year term of the late Sen. David C. Ford. Ford passed away March 5 after battling pancreatic cancer.
“We are excited to have a man of Travis Holdman’s quality joining the Indiana Senate,” said Senate President Pro Tem David C. Long (R-Fort Wayne). “He has a great background in business and local government, and is a man of great integrity and high character.”
A graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, Holdman earned a master’s degree from St. Francis University in Fort Wayne and a law degree from the Indiana University School of Law.
Holdman worked in Wells County government for 18 years: five as a deputy prosecutor, 11 years as administrator of child protective services and two years as a caseworker.
Perhaps best known for his many years as president and CEO of MarkleBank (cq), Holdman now practices estate-planning law, consults with community banks on strategic and succession planning and serves on the Wells County Council.
Active in local, state and federal politics, Holdman has served as Wells County Republican chair and vice chair.
Through his lifetime of service, Holdman gained the respect of banking, legal, agricultural, small business, educational and community leaders. Gov. Mitch Daniels tapped Holdman to serve on the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions Board for both 2005 and 2006.
Currently, Holdman serves on the board of trustees for Huntington University, where he also chairs the foundation board. He is an active member of the Indiana and Wells County Bar associations and serves on the administrative council at the Zanesville United Methodist Church. He is a member of the national board of Youth for Christ/USA.
Holdman and his wife Becky of 34 years have two adult children: LeAnne Holdman Gibbs, legislative director for Congressman Mike Pence in Washington, D.C.; and 2nd Lt. Wesley Holdman, a commissioned officer at Laughlin Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
