DIGEST OF INTRODUCED RESOLUTION
Citations Affected: Article 1, Section 38 of the Constitution of the
State of Indiana.
Synopsis: Marriage. Provides that only marriage between one man and
one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Indiana.
Provides that a legal status identical or substantially similar to that of
marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized.
This proposed amendment has been agreed to by one general assembly.
Effective: This proposed amendment must be agreed to by a second
general assembly and ratified by a majority of the state's voters voting
on the question to be effective.

A JOINT RESOLUTION proposing an amendment to Article 1 of
the Indiana Constitution concerning marriage.
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SECTION 1. The following amendment to the Constitution of the
State of Indiana, which was agreed to by the One Hundred Seventeenth
General Assembly and referred to this General Assembly for
reconsideration and agreement, is agreed to by this the One Hundred
Eighteenth General Assembly of the State of Indiana.

SECTION 2. ARTICLE 1 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE
STATE OF INDIANA IS AMENDED BY ADDING A
NEW
SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS:
Section 38. Only a marriage

recognized as a marriage in Indiana. A legal status identical or
substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals
shall not be valid or recognized.
