HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION memorializing former Representative Earle Howard.

    Whereas, Former Representative Earle Howard passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013, at the age of 86; his death was followed moments later by the death of his wife of 63 years, Lou Nell Howard;

    Whereas, A lifelong resident of Kokomo, Representative Howard was born on September 6, 1926;

    Whereas, After graduating from Kokomo High School, Representative Howard served in the Army during World War II, winning two Bronze Battle Stars, a Victory Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and an Army of Occupation Medal Japan;

    Whereas, Representative Howard dedicated his life to serving the public, beginning with service from 1950 to 1973 in the Kokomo Police Department, where he served as a patrolman and retired as police chief;

    Whereas, From 1974 through 1986, Representative Howard worked at the Howard County Sheriff's Department, serving as major and later serving two terms as Howard County Sheriff;

    Whereas, Representative Howard was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1986 and served until 1994;



    Whereas, Representative Howard was active in the community as a board member of the Salvation Army and the Crisis Center, and as a member of the Elks Lodge, the Kiwanis Club, and Fraternal Order of Police;

    Whereas, Representative Howard was also active in We Care and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene; and

    Whereas, Representative Howard was an active and contributing member of his community and, through his efforts in the Indiana House of Representatives, helped to make our state a better place in which to live: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly honors the life of Representative Earle Howard and honors his public service and dedication to the people of his district and the state of Indiana.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the family of Representative Earle Howard.
