MR. SPEAKER:

    I move that House Joint Resolution 1 be amended to read as follows:

SOURCE: Page 2, line 12 -->     Page 2, strike lines 12 through 18.
    Page 2, after line 40, begin a new paragraph and insert:
    " (i) Homestead property is exempt from property taxation.

SOURCE: 1912W -->     SECTION 3. SCHEDULE. (a) Article 10, Section 1(h) of the Constitution of the State of Indiana, as amended by this amendment, first applies to property taxes first due and payable in the year that immediately follows the date that the proposed amendment is agreed to by two consecutive general assemblies and ratified by a majority of the state's voters voting on the question.
    (b) The elimination of Article 10, Section 1(c)(4) of the Constitution of the State of Indiana by this amendment does not terminate any exemptions, deductions, or credits applicable by law to property taxes first due and payable in the year described in subsection (a).

Indiana, as amended by this amendment, first applies to property taxes first due and payable in the year following the year described in subsection (a).".
