Synopsis: Veteran license plate. Amends the definition of a Purple
Heart recipient for purposes of the Purple Heart license plate. Provides
that a Purple Heart license plate may be issued for display on a
passenger motor vehicle or a motorcycle. Eliminates the $15 annual
supplemental fee for each Hoosier veteran license plate.

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
veterans.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SECTION 1. IC 9-18-19-1 IS AMENDED TO READ AS
FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2007]: Sec. 1. (a) This subsection
expires December 31, 2007. The bureau shall design and issue a
passenger motor vehicle license plate that will designate the vehicle
as being registered to a person who has received a Purple Heart
decoration that is awarded to a person who suffers an injury while
serving as a member of the armed forces of the United States.
(b) Effective January 1, 2008, the bureau shall design and issue
a passenger motor vehicle license plate and a motorcycle license
plate that will designate the passenger motor vehicle or motorcycle
as being registered to an individual who has received a Purple
Heart decoration that is awarded to an individual who is wounded
in action against an enemy of the United States or as a result of an
act of an enemy of the United States if the wound necessitates
treatment by a medical officer.

SECTION 2. IC 9-18-19-3 IS AMENDED TO READ AS
FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2007]: Sec. 3. A Purple Heart
license plate must be displayed on a passenger motor vehicle or
motorcycle registered by a person to an individual described in
section 2 of this chapter.

SECTION 3. IC 9-29-5-38.5, AS ADDED BY P.L.58-2006,
SECTION 6, IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE
JULY 1, 2007]: Sec. 38.5. (a) A vehicle registered under IC 9-18-50 is
subject to:
(1) an annual registration fee;
(2) an annual supplemental fee of fifteen dollars ($15); and
(3) (2) any other fee or tax required of a person registering a
vehicle under this title.
(b) A vehicle registered under IC 9-18-51 is subject to:
(1) an annual registration fee;
(2) an annual supplemental fee of twenty dollars ($20); and
(3) any other fee or tax required of a person registering a vehicle
under this title.
(c) The bureau shall distribute the annual supplemental
fees fee
described in
subsections (a)(2) and subsection (b)(2) that
are is
collected from each registration to the director of veterans' affairs for
deposit in the military family relief fund established under
IC 10-17-12-8.
