A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing Senator Steve
Johnson for over 20 years of distinguished service to the
Indiana General Assembly and honoring him on his retirement
from the Indiana Senate.

MR. PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing Senator Steve
Johnson for over 20 years of distinguished service to the
Indiana General Assembly and honoring him on his retirement
from the Indiana Senate.
Whereas, Steve Johnson was first elected to the Indiana
General Assembly in 1980, serving in the House of
Representatives for two terms, from 1980-1982 and from 1984-
1986;
Whereas, in 1986, Steve was elected to the Indiana Senate
and has served since that time with distinction;
Whereas, following his first year in the Senate, Senator
Johnson was honored as the Outstanding Freshman Legislator
of the Year in 1987;
Whereas, Senator Johnson has made many valuable contributions to the Indiana Senate, serving on numerous standing committees, including the Senate Finance Committee and the Public Policy Committee, where he held the position of
Ranking Member; as well as serving as a member of the Health
and Provider Services Committee and the Energy and
Economic Development Committee;
Whereas, Senator Johnson's excellent grasp of complex
issues such as Medicaid and finance has been an asset to many
of his fellow Senators when grappling with these challenging
issues;
Whereas, Senator Johnson has demonstrated tireless
energy in serving the residents of Senate District 21, including
portions of Boone, Hamilton, Howard and Tipton counties;
Whereas, Senator Johnson has dedicated time and effort to
ensure that students in grades K-12 have access to cutting edge
technology;
Whereas, this past January Senator Johnson was honored
with the first Representative Gloria Goeglein Award from the
Marion County Mental Health Association for his work in
mental health and his outstanding leadership on mental health
issues;
Whereas, Senator Johnson is regarded with the highest
esteem by his many friends and colleagues in the General
Assembly and will be greatly missed;
Whereas, Steve is wished the very best in his new
endeavors, in which he is certain to excel: Therefore,
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Steve Johnson, and to his wife, Mary Beth Johnson.
