Maintain Healthy Weight

The better shape you’re in and the healthier you are, the less likely you are to run into complications during pregnancy such as preeclampsia (high blood pressure) or gestational diabetes. In addition, women who maintain a healthy weight before and during pregnancy are less likely to have a premature baby, a baby with a birth defect, or a baby with weight problems later in life. Women who manage their weight and make activity a daily part of their lives are more likely to have a more enjoyable pregnancy and easier labor.
