Getting Legal Help

This section is intended to help you find an attorney. The following groups can either help you with your case themselves and/or direct you to a lawyer or organization in your county that can help you. Legal representation may be provided free or at a low cost to those who qualify; however, no-cost or low-cost legal help is not available in all cases.

Filing or defending a case in court can be very difficult. There are a lot of court rules and procedures that have to be followed. Also, some cases may require specific kinds of immediate action or have deadlines to file papers, and failing to act or missing a deadline can have serious consequences for your case. Timely legal advice can stop small problems from becoming larger ones.

There are many ways you can find someone to help you. For example, you can find an attorney by talking to a friend or family member or by looking in the yellow pages under "lawyers" or "attorneys." You can also try contacting the organizations below.
