Pro bono means for the common good. It is a long-standing tradition that lawyers help the defenseless, weak, and oppressed regardless of an ability to pay. Indiana attorneys take an oath to protect all citizens and to protect our system of justice. To that end, attorneys freely donate their time and expertise in many ways.

What is the role of this web site?

This web site is created to provide information to you concerning civil legal pro bono efforts in the state of Indiana. The site also provides information concerning the civil legal pro bono efforts in your county. The Indiana Pro Bono Commission does not hire lawyers to accept cases. We can only provide information to you on how you may be able to obtain a pro bono attorney.

What to do if you have a criminal matter?

We do not handle criminal cases. If you have a criminal case and cannot afford a lawyer, contact the Indiana Public Defender's office at: 317-232-2475.
