According to the Indiana Constitution and state statute, the seven-member Judicial Nominating Commission works to fill appellate court vacancies. On November 9, 2015, Supreme Court Justice Brent E. Dickson announced he is stepping down from the bench in spring 2016. The Commission will consider applicants and select the three most qualified candidates as nominees. Gov. Mike Pence will select Indiana's next Supreme Court justice from among the three nominees.
