Oral argument webcasts are organized in a searchable database located at www.indianacourts.org/apps/webcasts/. Following are some tips for searching, browsing, and viewing this database.
Searching the Database
When you enter a term into the search box, the system will search the case caption (e.g., Smith v. State), the case number, the case summary (which usually includes attorneys' names), the court, and any keywords that may be associated with each case. Not all cases have keywords associated with them, but those that do include keywords that relate to the matters of law discussed in the case, such as statute of limitations, trial by jury, due process, or free speech..
When you enter more than one term into the search box, the system will automatically search for one term or the other and will never search for both terms, so it is best to use only one search term, such as the the last name of one party to the case or the last name of an attorney in the case.

Indiana's Case Number Format. |
Searching by case number. If you would like to search for an oral argument by case number, it is best to enter only the sequence number (without zeros at the beginning of the sequence number) for the case in question. For example, if the case number is 49S03-0204-CV-00158, then you would simply enter 158 into the search box. This will always narrow your results, but will not always result in only one case.
Searching by case type. If you would like to conduct a general search for a particular type of case, such as civil or criminal, you may enter the following codes into the search box and produce the appropriate results:
- CV - search results will be civil cases
- CR - search results will be criminal cases
- TA - search results will be tax cases
- JV - search results will be juvenile cases
- DI - search results will be disciplinary cases
Browsing the Database
If you would like to find an oral argument webcast by date and/or by court, the browse feature is the best way to do so. You may list available oral argument webcasts by:
- Month, Year, and Court
- Month and Year only
- Year and Court only
- Year only
- Court only
Viewing the Database
The oral arguments database has two primary views: Table and Detailed.
Table View. This view shows only the date and time of the oral argument, the court hearing the argument, the case caption with a link to the video of the argument, and a link to the case summary, if available.
Detailed View. This view shows all available information for an oral argument, including everything shown in table view as well as the case number and any keywords assigned to the case.
