From the Inside Out: How Indiana's Courts Work
The Indiana Supreme Court, in partnership with the Indiana Bar Foundation, will offer a workshop through IUPUI School of Education's "Summer in the City" Program on June 9 – 19 from 8:00am – 12:30pm. June 20th will be set aside for completion of the final project.
About the Workshop
This hands-on workshop is designed to familiarize participants with the daily operation of Indiana’s various courts and to provide resources for use in teaching about the courts and the law.
Possible trips include visits to a juvenile court, a small claims court, a drug court, and the women’s prison. Other activities include a research session in the law library, an appellate oral argument, and question and answer sessions with a trial court judge, a prosecutor, and a public defender to name a few.
You can find complete details on the attached flyer. Registration for 3 graduate credit hours is completed through the IUPUI School of Education at 317.274.6801. Online registration is available at http://education.iupui.edu/soe/sitc/index.aspx.
The Indiana Supreme Court will provide a stipend of $500 to the first 24 registrants. The stipend will be paid directly to the participants on the last day of the workshop. There is also money set aside to help reimburse teachers coming from outside the Indianapolis area.

| Calamari Productions is the only production company in the nation with legal access to film inside child welfare and juvenile delinquency courtrooms, as well as juvenile detention centers and prisons. Calamari has used this precious access to produce documentary films and series for networks such as NBC, MSNBC, MTV, Court TV, PBS and the A&E Television networks. These critically acclaimed and national award-winning films offer an unprecedented look inside the world of juvenile justice and child welfare, venues that are normally -- by law -- closed to the media and the public. |
