Justice Charles A. Ray

Justice Charles A. Ray
(Twentieth Justice)

There is very little information on his early life and background. The only record that exists states that he was appointed judge of Indiana’s 12th Common Pleas District on September 30, 1861. He was elected judge of the same district in October 1862, and served on the bench until December 7, 1864, when he resigned to assume his newly-elected position on the Indiana Supreme Court. He served on the Indiana Supreme Court from January 3, 1865 to January 3, 1871. Justice Ray moved to California during the 1870s and became a judge there.452
