2012 Event

The Indiana Supreme Court is having a contest for a justice to visit your classroom in celebration of Constitution Day 2012.  Get teacher resources and supporting materials for Constitution Day.

Contest Winners

Ten Indiana schools will get a visit from an Indiana Supreme Court Justice as winners of Courts in the Classroom's statewide contest in celebration of Constitution Day. The winning teachers and schools are:

Contest Details

Would you like an Indiana Supreme Court Justice to visit your classroom? Justice David for Constitution Day 2011

In celebration of Constitution Day 2012, Chief Justice Brent Dickson and Associate Justices Steven David and Mark Massa will visit three Indiana classrooms. Each Justice will visit one classroom, grades 4-12, on either Wednesday, September 19 or Friday, September 21, 2012.

To be considered for one of the visits, all you have to do is write a short email explaining why you would like a justice to visit your classroom and what type of activity you would like the justice to participate in with your class. This contest is open to educators from across the state teaching grades 4-12.

Constitution Day is celebrated each September 17th in recognition of the signing of the U. S. Constitution in 1787. Each year, organizations like Courts in the Classroom work to provide opportunities for students and the general public to learn more about the history of the Constitution. While in your classroom, the justices might talk about the Constitution, work with students on a Constitution Day project, or participate in an activity created/suggested by the winning teacher/class—it is up to you. There is no better way for your students to learn about the Constitution than talking with the people who study and apply it each and every day.

Please include your name, school name, school address, phone number, grade level, and number of students. Submissions are due no later than Monday, August 27 at 4:30 p.m. Please remember, the dates of the visits are Wednesday, September 19th or Friday, September 21st. Time of the visit will be determined by the winning teachers.

Entries should be sent to elizabeth.osborn@courts.in.gov.  Courts in the Classroom staff will contact the winning teacher by Tuesday September 4, 2012.
