Justice Prentice was born June 3, 1919, in Sellersburg, Indiana.
He received an LL.B. from Indiana University in 1942 and was subsequently admitted to the bar. From 1942 to 1946, he served in the Navy.449 He practiced law in Sellersburg from 1946 until 1970. He served on the Indiana Supreme Court from 1971 to 1985. He also served as a commissioner of the National Conference on Uniform State Laws.450
