Justice Lairy was born August 13, 1859, in Cass County, Indiana, and died April 9, 1927, in Logansport, Indiana.381
He went to the public schools and then taught there following graduation. He attended Valparaiso University, and then entered the law department at the University of Michigan, where he graduated in 1889. He was admitted to the Indiana bar the same year.382
He was appointed a circuit judge in 1895, and in 1910, he was elected to the Indiana Appellate Court. In 1914, he was elected to the Indiana Supreme Court and served from 1915 to 1921.383
