Justice Olds was born August 11, 1846, in Morrow County, Ohio, and died July 30, 1925, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He studied law at The Ohio State University. He was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1869. He served as an Indiana State Senator from 1877 to 1879 and was a judge in the 33rd Circuit from 1885 to 1888.429 He served on the Indiana Supreme Court from 1889 to June 15, 1893, when he resigned to practice law in Chicago. During the Civil War, he served as a private in the 174th Regiment, Ohio Volunteers.430
