Indianapolis to host top international wine competition
February 8th, 2005
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Winemakers from around the world will send their best wines to Indiana for the Indy International Wine Competition July 28-30th, 2005. Over 3,600 wines from 17 countries were judged at Indy last year, making it the third largest international wine competition in the United States. Seventy five wine judges will travel to Indianapolis from throughout the United States and Canada to taste, analyze and score the various wines. Judges include Daryl Groom, executive vice president/winemaker for Geyser Peak Winery and Dan Berger, syndicated wine columnist.
Competition categories include commercial entries and amateur entries. Amateur winemakers and commercial fruit winemakers will find the Indy International appealing since the Indy International is the largest competition in the country for both categories. Trophies for the commercial wine class include best of show, best white, best red, a Pacesetter Trophy, awarded to the winery winning the most quality points at the competition, and the Governor's Cup.
The competition, sponsored by the Indiana State Fair, will be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Exposition Hall in Indianapolis. Judging will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day during the event. The competition is open to the public for viewing.
